Hi, I’m Mimi Yasgur.
I’ve always been drawn to the ways creativity can reach places that words alone cannot. After graduating Barnard College, I took an improv theater class, and watching people connect more deeply with themselves and with one another through spontaneity and play was both moving and energizing. That experience led me to pursue my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy at Lesley University.
I opened my private practice in Cambridge in 2016, and over time I began to notice a pattern. Many of my clients were navigating major life transitions that were deeply tied to their physical spaces: moving, downsizing, or sorting through a loved one’s belongings. What initially appeared to be practical challenges often revealed deeper emotional layers: grief, guilt, identity, and the complicated process of letting go.
Before opening my private practice, I worked with unhoused veterans and older adults at the New England Center and Home for Veterans, supporting them as they navigated housing and overall wellbeing. That experience deepened my understanding of how profoundly our physical environments affect our mental and emotional health and how difficult it can be to create the space we need to feel grounded, safe, and able to grow.
My Approach
In our work together, I draw from multiple therapeutic modalities to meet you where you are:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to strengthen coping skills, rewire unhelpful thought patterns, and develop greater emotional awareness
Expressive Arts Therapy through visual art, writing, movement, and drama to access what's difficult to put into words
Mind-Body Practices including meditation and relaxation exercises to cultivate self-care and groundedness
I work with adults across the lifespan and offer both individual psychotherapy and group facilitation. My goal is to help you understand the emotional roots of what's keeping you stuck, while providing concrete tools to move forward with clarity and compassion.
Beyond the Office
Outside of my professional work, I stay grounded through my own creative and reflective practices, including art-making, writing, movement, and time spent walking. These practices, along with my spiritual life, help me remain connected to myself and continually deepen my understanding of the transformative power of creativity, presence, and reflection.
I look forward to walking alongside you and supporting you on your journey!
